Meet one of the very first voices on Nile FM, Simon Ramsden.

Simon grew up in the UK, and he lived most of his childhood in Worcestershire, which is located near Birmingham, the UK’s second city. He has always dreamed of being a DJ from his teenage years. He set up his own mobile disco when he was in his mid-twenties, and loved every second of it! That's when he knew that being a presenter was all he ever wanted to do.

From mobile discos came hospital radio, where he learnt the craft of radio. His ﬁrst real radio job came in the late 90’s and the rest is history!

His hobbies include going to the gym, and he loves to kayak on the open water and river ways where he lives.

What advice would you give your 15 year old self?

Never give up and be the best at what you do!

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Travelling and meeting people from different cultures. I always love a challenge and I like to push myself to achieve new things.

If you were to spend your lifetime advocating a cause, what would it be?

To help those that can not help themselves. If we all did more to help those that are not able to do so, the world would be a better place.

What is your worst habit?

Eating after 8pm

Do you have any pets?

My son Zacko, the cat who is more human that you could ever believe possible.

What are three things you cannot live without?

My Cat Zacko, Indian curry, and the gym to burn it off.

What is the most embarrassing Halloween outﬁt you’ve ever worn?

I remember leaving too late one year and the only costume left in the shop was a pink bird! And yes, I did wear it…

Favorite musician of all time?

I have a long list of musicians I love and admire, the list would be far too long to answer here… Off the top of my head I would say Zero, London Grammar, to name but a few.

Favorite Egyptian food?

I love Koushary, Foul, and Ta'meya.

Name one thing in Egypt you wish you could export back to England.

The friendly open people that I've met. I can honestly say that the Egyptian hospitality is something that will stay with me forever.

What’s something from England that you think would ﬁt perfectly well in Egypt?

Maybe double decker buses!

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you when you were on-air?

Once a ﬂy came into the studio while I was on air and I while I was trying to remove it it landed on my nose while I was speaking and I accidentally swore out loud fretting that my mic was open. Oops.
