Meet the multi-talented, non-stop laughing Sally!

Sally was definitely what you would call an ‘international kid’. She spent her entire childhood moving from country to country with her family, so even though she was born in Egypt, by the time she was 15, she’d lived in Canada, Bahrain and Oman. She found it wonderful, eye-opening and life-changing.

She returned to Egypt when she was 16, finished high school and went to university and then travelled to the UK to pursue a Masters in Acting and follow her dreams of becoming a performer. She came back to Egypt in 2012 and joined the Nile FM family that same year.

"Silence is golden" is so NOT her motto. Sally's the girl that will talk her way in and out of every situation - and the more awkward things get, the more she will ramble and laugh (she laughs a lot).

When she's not talking or laughing though, she's busy dreaming up and planning how she's going to change the world, reading up on the latest celebrity antics, planning her Oscars acceptance speech, and trying to convince Mark that she's not as crazy as he thinks she is.

Other than that, she’s fiercely dedicated to the things she loves including her family, friends, dreams, sushi and Oscar Wilde. She’s a Scorpio who doesn’t believe in star signs, and she’s a carnivore through and through.

Sally, what advice would you give your 15 year old self?

Chill out. You’re weird and obsessed with the dreams you have for your future and that’s fine. You may not understand why you’re not content going to parties and doing stupid teenage things like the rest of your friends, but it’ll work out in your favour in the end.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

There are a lot of things I have yet to do like go skydiving, bungee jumping and eat my way across the Far East, but so far, I think the most adventurous thing I’ve done is packing my bags back in 2009 and moving to the UK on my own to pursue my dreams of becoming a performer. Oh and I’ve tried frog legs…tastes just like chicken. Yum, yum.

If you were to spend your lifetime advocating a cause, what would it be?

Women’s rights. All over the world, whether in first world or third world countries, women are degraded, underestimated, assaulted and taken for granted. I think it’s important that women’s issues, in every aspect, are treated with the respect and the gravity that they deserve. Being for women also doesn’t mean you are anti-men…which unfortunately is what many people think. I’d love to dedicate myself to working alongside men for worldwide equality and respect for women.

Do you speak any other languages?

I understand a decent amount of French and speak it semi-fluently. I’m also fluent in a made-up language I used to speak with my friends as a teenager called P Language. Other than that, it’s good old English and Arabic for me.

What is your worst habit?

Procrastination. I do actually get things done, but I always have to bring myself close to a panic attack first.

What are three things you cannot live without?

My family, my goals and my eye-liner.

What superpower do you wish your pet had?

I have a fish…just one fish that has survived almost two and half years with me. He ate all of his friends in the tank and is virtually indestructible. Ultimately, he needs no superpowers because he obviously already has some secret survival superpower secret that he’s keeping to himself.

What is the most embarrassing Halloween outfit you’ve ever worn?

I’ve never really been a ‘dress-up for Halloween’ kind of person. My mother didn’t think it was appropriate to dress us up as witches and goblins and that sort of stuff when we were kids so we would dress up as what she decided were ‘nice’ things: i.e. princesses, clowns and the pink power ranger. No photo exists of me as a power ranger sadly. If there was one, it would be my profile photo on Facebook.

Favourite musician of all time?

I can’t pick one. There are too many to name, but I will say that I have a soft spot for Bryan Adams because I went to see him in concert when I was 13 years old on his ‘Best of Me’ Tour.

Favourite TV show of all time?

Friends. Could the show BE anymore timeless?!

What got you into acting?

I’ve been performing to whoever would look at me for longer than 30 seconds since I was about 10 years old. I just remember feeling an enormous amount of joy whenever I was given the opportunity, no matter what I was doing, to be on stage. I walked into drama class as an awkward teen, worked out that you could do the whole acting thing for a living and the rest is history. I’ve been obsessed ever since.

Favorite character you ever played?

I have a soft spot for all the characters I’ve played in the past. There are two roles, however, that I dream of taking on one day: Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice and Nora Helmer from the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you when you were on-air?

It’s hard to remember one thing in particular. Mark breaking out in random Arabic words usually makes me giggle. But often, it’s our listeners are the ones that are really funny and make us breakdown into uncontrollable laughter.

For example, we have one listener who is a dentist and often comes on the show to play our games and he revealed, after Mark expressed how much most people hate dentists, that we should all know that dentists hate most people just as much. That had us crying with laughter.

What’s your go-to lazy meal?

If I’m being healthy, Teryaki Salmon and Asparagus (takes 10-15 mins to make) and if not, then I’ll eat pasta. Lots and lots of pasta.

What is something that is “always” to be found in your handbag?

I carry a HUGE 'Mary Poppin's' type handbag around. I always have a shawl, my planner & nice ink pen, my moisturizing cream and a handheld pocket mirror in there. Honestly, sometimes I surprise myself with the stuff that’s randomly hiding in my bag.
